~What's new at Altered Statement~
~3/1/08~ We just turned in our submissions to both the Portland Mercury's spring fashion show and to vend at High Sierra Music Festival. We should find out soon if we are accepted or not. I am starting a blog in my experience of this, to define my process and inspiration as an individual, collaboration, designer, and artist. Check it out here: www.alteredstatement.blogspot.com
~2/4/08~ We're already into February of 2008! It's movin' along, but still early in planning for a crazy year to come!
We are currently working on a few new projects. The first is a photo portfolio of our current designs and styles in our *eco-boutique* so that we can submit our work to the local Mercury spring fashion show as well as our vendor application for High Sierra Music Festival this summer. Click Here to see our online portfolio submission.
Expect to see lots of new *original* OOAK *one of a kind designs!
But also expect some other things to change a bit around here...
If we are accepted into either of these events, we may only be offering limited custom orders for between July 10th - August 10th to be shipped by the end of August in the order they are taken.
Some other things to expect...
If we are accepted into either of these events, the current items (including fabrics) may then no longer be available (except for limited custom ordering). *On the flip side if we are not accepted into either event, more predyed fabrics may become available ;)
Other changes for 2008!
We're starting to settle into our new lives here in Portland, and we love it! But it also has brought a lot of changes to Altered Statement. *I promise! to post pictures soon of our work space*. We're still figuring a few things out, such as new dyes from our supplier and differences in water qualities from our move. Each of these things have had an impact on our dyeing, but we are working hard to bring consistency in our work. We are also taking a new look at our methods and being an ethical consumer we're concerned with the amount of water we use. Expect to see some new low water immersion *truly, one of a kind* fabrics. We're also looking at our dye levels and consumption. We've realized some colors are more expensive to produce given the amount of dye needed and the cost of different dye colors. So expect some fabrics to vary by price. Also expect custom ordering to be limited to the colors we have on hand. (see our dye schedule for current availability: http://alteredstatement.com/dyeschedule.html
~In other BIG news~
Until we are able to completely settle in to this new evolution of Altered Statement, we are temporarily closing wholesale ordering (this exception is for long time standing customers/friends). Custom ordering *may* still be available, but will be limited to pre-ordering within our dye schedule and to fabrics on hand. Predyed fabric may also be available, on occasion.
Ian is going back to doing what he did before, in movie theater management... so now we're both back to working full-time as well as having Altered Statement. What this means is re-evaluating how big Altered Statement is. We miss the days having more one on one touch with each and every purchase, but we also have less and less time doing it... so where's the balance? It might mean more custom ordering on clothing and less fabric by the yard available. It might mean taking all ordering via email rather than a shopping cart. It might mean changing email services to better organize orders and clean up spam issues. all these things are directed at bringing you a more connected experience as we 'down-size' a bit. Ordering will now be available either through emailing orders@alteredstatement.com or through Etsy instant ordering. In both cases you will receive an order accepted message along with an order shipped message. If ordering by email, you are not guaranteed the item's availability. If the item is no longer available, you will receive an automated email.
Orders will now be shipped Tuesdays and Fridays. We appreciate your patience through this transition, but we are now getting this set up for more consistent shipping. All orders will be still be shipped USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation. If you would like insurance, please include this in your order. We are not responsible for lost or damaged items. We do provide delivery confirmation to make sure it got to the address you provided and will provide this with your 'order shipped' email.
We'll continue to bring you updates as things progress! Please send us thoughts of the runway for our Mercury fashion show submission!! and we hope to see you at High Sierra!!!
~peace~
and many thanks!
Ang & Ian
